Where this began

The same building since 1991

Friedrich Douwes M.D. (1945–2022) opened this hospital in 1991 on Rosenheimer Straße in Bad Aibling. He wanted conventional medicine and the complementary therapies he had seen work to be practised in one building, by one team, with one chart. That is still the arrangement you walk into today.

It started small, with oncology and biological medicine. It is now a 70-bed hospital with its own laboratory and its own hyperthermia department, and since 1991 people from more than 60 countries have come here, most of them with a chronic condition that had not responded to standard care and a folder of findings to prove it.

Today Julian Douwes M.D. leads the hospital as Chief Medical Officer and writes its treatment protocols; his work spans functional medicine, chronic disease, rare diseases, longevity and neuromodulation. Martin Rößner M.D., Chief Physician, leads oncology and the clinical day. The founding idea has not changed: a complex chronic disease is not treated with one tool, and you are not treated by one department.

What we are here for

Medicine that looks at all of you

Managing a symptom is not the same as understanding why it is there. We measure first, then treat what the measurements show, and we say plainly how strong the evidence is for each therapy we propose.

What we do

We combine modern diagnostics with biological and complementary medicine in one plan, and we put you, not the diagnosis, at the centre of every decision about it.

What we want to be

A hospital you can check: named physicians, published work, and outcomes we record for every patient and report honestly.

How we behave

We take your history seriously, we tell you what we do not know, and we treat you as a person with a story, not a diagnosis with a room number.

What you will see

Three rooms you will get to know

A hospital is a building before it is a philosophy. These are the parts of ours you will spend the most time in.

Whole-body hyperthermia beds at St. George Hospital, Bad Aibling

The hyperthermia department

Whole-body, local-regional and prostate hyperthermia under one roof, and more than 30,000 whole-body sessions behind the team that will sit at your bed during yours.

The laboratory

Your blood is drawn on the morning you arrive and analysed in this building: immune profile, infection markers, microbiome, specialised Lyme testing. Results go to your physician, not to a courier.

Your room

A private room, nursing around the clock, gardens and walking paths outside, and the quiet of a small Bavarian town after dark.

Where you are going

Bad Aibling, an hour from the airport

From Munich you drive south-east on the A8 with the Alps filling the windscreen, leave the motorway at Bad Aibling and arrive in a spa town with church towers, thermal springs and a slow river. It is about 50 kilometres from the city and a little under an hour from Munich Airport; if you fly in from the US overnight, you can be in your room the same afternoon.

It is quiet here. That is not a therapy, but it makes the therapy easier to bear.
